Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act.

The Australian Government Department of Health (the Department) is bound by the Privacy Act when handling your personal information.

The Department is collecting personal and sensitive information about you to enable a response to your enquiry regarding the Breast, Bowel or Cervical Screening Programs.

If you do not provide sufficient detail with respect to your question, the Department may not be able to properly respond to your request.

Where your inquiry specifically relates to the operation of the National Cancer Screening Register (the Register), the National Cancer Screening Register Act 2016 may authorise personal information about you being collected for the purposes of operating the Register.

The Department may disclose the details of your question to state and territory government health departments, the Department of Human Services, the contracted pathology service providers for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, and the contracted service provider for the Register.

The Department will not disclose your personal and sensitive information to overseas recipients.

  • how you may access the personal and sensitive information the Department holds about you and how you can seek correction of it; and
  • how you may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) or a registered APP Code that binds the Department, and how the Department will deal with such a complaint.
